Curren’s first-ever session at Jeffrey’s Bay in South Africa will go down as one of the most famous, documented, and significant single freesurfs in modern surfing. Riding a 6’11” quad, Curren proceeded to put on a clinic that Jeffrey’s Bay hadn’t seen to that point in absolute flawless double overhead surf.
Dawning an unforgettable black and pink Rip Curl wetsuit, Curren put forth a seamless mix of full-rail carves, deep barrels, and unforgettable showmanship in the process. Magazine coverage and video sections would follow, and the session remains just as relevant today as it did 20 years ago.
